A-Level Further Maths
Every exam board starts with Core Pure, which builds on A-Level Maths with complex numbers, matrices, proof by induction, further calculus and vectors, polar coordinates, hyperbolic functions and differential equations. The rest of the course is made up of options, and which ones a student sits depends on the board and the school.
Further Pure and Further Mechanics
These were Noah’s options, and they’re his specialities. He chose both, a combination widely seen as one of the hardest to get an A* with, and scored 75 out of 75 on Further Mechanics and 71 out of 75 on Further Pure.
Further Mechanics covers topics such as momentum and impulse, work, energy and power, elastic strings and springs, and collisions. Further Pure goes further into pure maths. If your child is taking different options, mention them on the intro call.
GCSE Further Maths and Additional Maths
Level 2 Further Maths and Additional Maths are taken alongside GCSE by students who are strong at maths. They go beyond GCSE into topics such as calculus, matrices and harder algebra and trigonometry, and they’re excellent preparation for A-Level. Noah got an 8 in AQA Further Maths, with 136 out of 160, a single mark off a 9.
